Toofhairy Mini!

Now who's that in this blurry picture? It's Toofhairy Mini! Right now 1000 of these little fellows are slowly making their way to the stores (in a couple of months).

And... 50 of them will be pink!!!

Cracker Nuts!

I'm glad someone came up with an English name for these. For years I just called these peanuts with a crunchy coating "super crunchies." In Chinese they are called "fish skin peanuts." But they're not fishy!

They also have all kinds of crazy flavors now. Adobo is the favorite around the Spök-spök HQ.

Super crunchie! Salty! Peanut-y!

Kalles Kaviar!

Spök-spök and Spökelina brought Toofhairy Mini (who will hit the stores in a few weeks!) to IKEA in Brooklyn today.

They got some Kalles Kaviar, which is a Swedish delicacy for the refined palette. It's basically creamed caviar, and they got both the dill version and the cheese version.

Salty, fishy, dilly, and cheesy! Delicious!

Grade: A+!

Pucca!

Here's Morot (the Swedish carrot) showing us his favorite snack!

Puccas are pretzel shells shaped like fish! They are filled with yummy chocolate. Of all the adorable chocolate filled cracker snacks out there, these are our favorite.

Crunchy! Creamy! Chocolate-y! NOT fishy!
Grade: A+

We've been long time fans of I Heart Cool Stuff! Imagine our surprise when we saw a posting about Spök-spök and Spökelina's trip to Lapland there.

Oh Toofhairy

Remember when Toofhairy said her favorite food was lasagna?

Now she says it's enchiladas!

We think she just loves anything with cheeeeeeese!!

T-shirt!

As you might know, we're huge fans of Cheburashka here at Spök-spök, and here's the latest addition to our ever growing collection of memorabilia dedicated to this Russian cutie pie. A t-shirt!

Sally Mystery!

Sally Shapiro is a mysterious band from Sweden. No one knows the singer's name!

Their music is always getting stuck in our heads, especially the song Jackie Jackie. Daniel reviewed Disco Romance when it came out, and the remix disk too!

Double Cream?? Of course!!

Yan Yan is a tube of crunchy cracker sticks you can dip. The pack comes with creamy frosting, usually strawberry or chocolate. Then they invented Double Cream! I don't think I need to explain what that is.

Crunchy! Sweet! Chocolate-y! Strawberry-y!

Baron Broad Bean!

I think the broad (fava) bean often gets a bad rap.

These broad beans deep fried with garlic and salt are popular all over China. It's one of our favorite snacks here at Spök-spök HQ.

Crunchy! Salty! Garlic-y!
Grade: A+

We had a problem with them disappearing so we set up a spy camera... guess what it caught?

He reviewed one of Spök-spök's favorite albums! It makes for lots of plushie dance fun!

Happy Moon Day!

It's moon day! The official name is Mid-Autumn Festival, but it's all about the full moon.

Moon day is a special day when the whole family gathers together after dinner, drinks some tea, and "admires the moon." Like every good holiday it revolves around love and pastry.

There is a legend involving 10 suns, archery, gods, love and immortality. But the pastry is what everyone really cares about!

Moon cakes are dense and puck shaped. They are filled with anything from red bean and lotus paste to egg yokes or meat. Usually a whole family shares just one or 2 moon cakes. We've only ever known one person to eat a whole moon cake by himself (We're looking at you Daniel!)

Cheese!

Toofhairy is from Scotland; then she lived in Sweden as an au pair toof.

So it makes perfect sense that her favorite food would be lasagna!

NYC Subway Smiles!

Here's a cute story from earlier today. I (that's me, Daniel) was on the subway on my way to the office, as always it was busy and lots of people. Most people were grumpy, but then a little kid and his mom stepped on the train, and the kid was holding a... Toofhairy!

Believe it or not, but I think the entire subway car started smiling the second that kid walked in. That's the effect Toofhairy have on people (and the kid was adorable)!

Singing Cheburashka!

We LOVE Russian character Cheburashka here at the Spök-spök HQ. As a kid in Sweden, Daniel watched Cheburashka every night on TV, and as a grown up he got the Russian mascot from the Turin Olympics.

By accident we found out that this snow white Cheburashka sings! Does anyone know what he's singing about? Does anyone know this song? If you do, please enlighten us, because we have no clue what this pretty song is all about.

Happy Birthday To Daniel!!!

Even though Eric fixed our oven we decided to make a no bake icebox cake. It's a perfect summer time cake made with layers of chocolate wafers and whipped cream.

Ming covered the top with tiny Hershey's Kisses!

We Love Cake! - UPDATE

Eric our super is so nice. He heard our sad story and decided to stop by, even though it's the  weekend. Luckily it didn't take too long. He fixed the oven in less than 2 minutes.

And by "fixed" we mean "plugged in."

Hey, we're plush makers not oven experts! :)

We Love Cake!

This Sunday is going to be a very very special day! On that day Daniel, the creator and master of the Spök-spök universe, has his birthday!

Yay!!!

For weeks now we've been researching recipes for the perfect cake. It had to be unpretentious, delicious, easy to make, but above all else, chocolate. After much searching, comparing, changing of minds, and even some arguing, we decided on Kladdkaka.

It is a gooey chocolatey Swedish cake that can be made in one bowl! Everyone was very very excited.

But tragedy strikes! Our beautiful newly renovated space has a beautiful new oven... which doesn't seem to work. And the super can't come until next week! The whole Spök-spök crew is thinking hard about this, but if you have a favorite bakery in NYC please recommend it to us!

Toof Hugs!

Just because the contest is over doesn't mean you have to stop sending us your photos! One of the very best things about working at Spök-spök is seeing our cuddly BFFs make new friends.

Doesn't this brighten your whole day?
It made our whole week!

Thanks to Mel for the photo!

Baron Won Ton!

We made wontons!

These are cilantro wontons that Ming's grandma taught her to make. The original recipe calls for pork, but we substituted with strained tofu for the vegetarians of the Spök-spök crew. Cilantro is called "fragrant vegetable" in Chinese. Isn't that a great name?

Even the Baron likes them!
